Tablescapes + Room Layouts

There is something about a beautiful ballroom or tented space that really pops when you add in some dimension. Chances are, you and your guests have attended tons of weddings with uniform round tables topped with the same floral arrangement on each table and nothing is wrong with it. In fact, I’d wager to say that every guest said it was absolutely stunning and I bet they were right!! I’m not suggesting that everyone is doing it wrong and I’m not reinventing the wheel. I guess I’m talking to the person(s) who wants to take their design up a notch or two. They want their wedding to be more than the average and not just another night out. For those people, I have some helpful tips that will elevate the aesthetic of your event space.

Table Shapes

Consider experimenting with different shapes of tables. There are round tables, square tables, rectangular tables, serpentine tables and even triangular tables. The table shapes our design team use most are combinations of rounds and squares or rounds and rectangles or sometime a combination of all 3. Many time we reserve the serpentine tables for the couple and bridal party to all sit together. We have also used them to make a statement with a lush cookie or dessert table. The triangular tables are used during cocktail hour since they are typically smaller and taller in height. It’s such a nice change up from your standard all round table room layout.

Centerpieces

Do you know how many people are really turned off by the idea of a tall centerpiece? I have encountered clients who want all low centerpieces because they are worried about it being in the way and their guests not being able to comfortably converse with one another. I’m sure this can be a real issue if you don’t have the proper design and production team executing your day. However, with the right team you can make any dream work. I always suggest and lead with a mix of high and low centerpieces. Actually, we like to create at least 3 different but cohesive looks. One that is that is wowing and statement making. One that is a bit more reserved and one right in the middle. None of which will interrupt or make conversing difficult, but rather be the topic of conversation in that moment.

One of the main reasons this is helpful beyond adding dimension is it allows us to flex your design a little bit while being mindful of your financial comfort zone. With different centerpiece options comes different pricing options which allow our design team, to splurge on one look and pull back on another.

Linen Colors

One of the easiest things to do! When we are covering each table in a floor length linen, I like to rotate the linen colors and sometimes play with the napkin colors too. It’s an easy way to add some personality to your design and sometimes a more financially reasonable option than renting different table shapes. With the way the event industry has evolved your options are endless with linen colors AND textures. I just want to say I am an advocate for texture, honey - but that is another day’s topic. With countless options, we could opt for just 2 different solid colors and rotate them throughout your event space. We could even go with a much more intriguing linen that has a blend of colors or a unique pattern paired with 2 simple, solid linen colors that would support and balance the foundation of the design.

Now matter how you choose to experiment with your design the key is dimension. You’ll be able to have some give and take within your financial comfort zone and your photographer will get some amazing full room shots.
